Pomeroy - Anna M. (Spiessl) Colburn, 94, passed away peacefully at Overbrook Rehabilitation Center in Middleport, OH surrounded by family, on Tuesday July 7, 2026. Anna was born on August 6, 1931, the daughter of the late Josef Spiessl and Anna (Karl) Spiessl in Straubing, Germany.
Anna was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, great-grandmother, beloved sister, and treasured friend. Her family was the center of her world, and she loved them with all her heart. She found her greatest happiness in the moments spent together-sharing stories, creating memories and preparing delicious German meals that brought her loved ones together around the table.
Having spent her youth in Germany during War World II, she witnessed a time of extraordinary hardship and uncertainty. The resilience she developed during those difficult years became a defining part of the woman she was-strong, compassionate, and deeply grateful for the family and life she later built.
Anna shared a beautiful marriage of 70 years with the love of her life, Dale. Their love story began in Straubing, Germany, where Anna worked at the U.S Army Post and Dale was serving as Sargent for the Army. While on guard duty and checking passes, their paths crossed for the first time. A chance meeting became the beginning of a lifelong love story. Together they built a life filled with unwavering, love, devotion, and countless cherished memories. Anna was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic church where she could always be found helping out in the kitchen cooking for church activities or teaching CCD classes to the youth. In her younger days she enjoyed bowling with her girlfriends.
In addition to her husband Anna is survived by her children, Tim (Brenda) Colburn, Russellville, AR. Rose Fife, Reedsville, OH. Jim Colburn (Leah Williams), Wichita, KS. Fred (Melissa) Colburn, Hilliard, OH.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Weston (Jilaine) Fife, Kelsey (Travis) Dickson and Isabella Colburn; great grandchildren, Skylar and Austin Fife; siblings, Brigitta (Hans)Ramsauer, Meckenheim, Germany and Wolfgang (Roswitha)Spiessl, Bruckberg, Germany and many beloved nieces and nephews in Germany and the United States; special friends Greg and Brenda Walburn and Ilse and Chris Burris.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers and sisters; Josef (Lilo) Spiessl, Hans (Erna) Spiessl, Maria (Donald) Chaput, Elizbeth (Gustav) Gerl, and Erika(Ernie) Bowen.
