Athens

B. Deahl, 101, of Athens, Ohio, passed away peacefully in the early hours of August 4, 2025.

Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on April 26, 1924, she was the daughter of John and Ruth White. B. earned her degree in design from the University of Iowa, launching a lifelong career in the arts. She ran her own successful design firm for many years before accepting a position as Professor of Design at Ohio University in Athens—a role that allowed her to inspire generations of students.

B. had a deep and abiding passion for art, with a remarkable talent for creating images and logos that stood the test of time. She was also a tireless advocate for women’s rights, human rights, and environmental protection, never hesitating to raise her voice for the causes she believed in. Her wide-ranging interests, warm heart, and fierce intellect earned her the admiration and love of her family, friends, and the community she called home.

She is survived by her daughter Jan Reed, son David Deahl, and daughter Dru Deahl. She was preceded in death by her son, John Deahl and sisters, Joan Duplessis and Susie Heath. B. was a devoted grandmother to six: Dani Deahl Tang, Ryan Deahl, Seth Deahl, Cari Morgan, Adam Deahl, and Jeff Eben.

B. will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. In keeping with her wishes and her commitment to education, she donated her body to science at the university. A "Celebration of Life" will be announced by the family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to one of her most cherished causes—the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). Those who wish to sign her online guestbook or donate to the ACLU may do so at www.ehwfh.com.
