Betty Lou Coen, 93, of Frost, Ohio, with her children at her side, peacefully left her blessed life and entered her heavenly home on March 14, 2026.
Betty is survived by daughters Judith (Steven) Williams of Coolville, Deborah (Scott Bearhs) Zimmerman of Guysville, Penny (Michael) Nutter of Belpre, and sons Steven (Barbara) of Guysville, and Gregory (Malissa) of Stewart, 16 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
Betty is also survived by her sisters Peggy (Donald) Young, Janet Owens, and Kathryn (Bill) Church, and brothers Roy (Judy) and Carl (Bev Thorn) Alkire, sisters-in-law Eiko Alkire, Carolyn Alkire and Susan Alkire, as well several in-laws on the Coen side of the family, many nieces and nephews, and other special family members.
Betty was born January 12, 1933 in Parkersburg, West Virginia to the late Jennison Russell and Verna (Wiggins) Alkire. She was preceded in death by Earl, her loving husband of 75 years, her father-in-law and mother-in-law Kenneth and Bessie (Lonas) Coen, brothers Robert, Donald, John and Terry Alkire, sister Marie Taylor, sisters-in-law Sandi Alkire and Myrtle Gabriel, brothers-in-law Steve Owens and Eddie Taylor, son-in-law Bruce Morgan, and several other in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Betty attended Rome Canaan High School and on August 27, 1949, she and Earl were married in Greenup, Kentucky. She spent her life as a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. She was a member of Centennial Congregational Church, and later a member of the Stewart United Methodist Church. She was also a life-long member of the Auxiliary to Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
Betty enjoyed bowling, bingo, bluegrass, Bunko, and babies. She loved family gatherings and would always count the number of people that were there. She always greeted people with a smile on her face.
Services will be Thursday, March 19, 2026 at 11:00 AM at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home in Coolville, Ohio with Pastor James Lambert officiating. Burial will be in Meigs Memory Garden. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 18th from 6:00-8:00 PM and Thursday, March 19th from 10:00-11:00 AM.
