Bill “Hippie” Watkins, born April 10, 1954, passed away February 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend whose life was defined by hard work, loyalty, and love for those closest to him. Bill shared 53 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Dona. Together they built a strong and loving family.
He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie (Richard) Wilson, and his son, Master Sergeant Billy (Allison) Watkins. He was a proud grandfather, “Poppy,” to Christopher (Neesa) Wilson, Tyler Wilson, Trey Watkins, Callie Watkins, and a loving great-grandfather to Grey and Adeline Wilson. He is also survived by many dear relatives and friends, including sisters-in-law, Vivian (Gary) Wilson and Sandra (Jim) Moore; brothers-in-law, Jimmy (Debbie) Barker, Ricky (Peggy) Barker, Jackie Barker, Paul Marshall, and Tim Stump. Bill treasured his special friendships, especially Bob Ashcraft, Bob Rymer, Rhonda “Crash” Hollan, and “Big K” Thomas.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Watkins; mother, Della (Garnet) Gillespie; sisters, Dianna Stump and Shirley Jeffers; brother, Robert (Bob) Watkins; cousin, Tom White; nephew, Michael Willie; and his best friend, Scotty Ashcraft.
Bill spent 45 years working as a truck driver, a career he took great pride in. He was known for his strong work ethic, having earned the 1-million-mile award with Land-star Trucking. He will also be remembered for a ditch that he was always digging, from sunup to sundown, yet nobody could find it around his house! Bill loved traveling with his wife, walking the beaches, and spending time outdoors. Above all else, he loved his family – his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his greatest joy and proudest accomplishment.
Bill will be remembered for his strength, his dedication, his free spirit, and the deep love he had for his family. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Graveside services will be held at 11am on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the Coolville Cemetery, with Pastor Robert Clegg officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to White Funeral Home in Coolville, OH.
