Clarence Barnett

Clarence Ronald “Ron” Barnett embarked on his final great adventure on September 8, 2026, at the age of 79, at Ohio Health Hospice House in Columbus Ohio. He was born December 3, 1946, in Parkersburg, West Virginia a son of the late Clarence and Georgia Cooper Barnett.

Ron graduated from Eastern High School in 1964 before proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force for four years. During his time in the Air Force, he was stationed at Brooks Air Force Base in San Antonio Texas where he met the love of his life, Carol. Together they built a beautiful life and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on July 16 with a wonderful celebration at Caesars Windsor in Ontario Canada surrounded by their family.

Following his military service, Ron worked for City Public Service in San Antonio beginning in 1968. In 1970, he moved back to Ohio, and in 1972 began his career with Shell Chemical Company. Ron dedicated 27 years to Shell before retiring in 1999.

Ron had a true love for adventure and especially enjoyed traveling with his family. Throughout his life, he traveled to all 50 states and visited countries across Europe and beyond. He loved cruises - both ocean and river cruises - visiting casinos and just about anything that included spending time with family and friends.

When he wasn’t traveling, Ron enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. He found great joy tending to his massive garden, which always gave him plenty to share with everyone he knew. Ron was known as a warm, generous, and kind-hearted person who never held a grudge. He was funny, loved telling stories and had a spirit that made people happy to be around him.

Ron was also a proud member of the Coolville Masonic Lodge #337 and Hickory Hills Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Barnett and his grandparents John Barnett, Carrie Dixon, and George and Ida Cooper.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years, Carol; his daughter, Robyn (Mike) DeRosa of Powell, Ohio; his son Steven (Allison) Barnett of Tuppers Plains, Ohio; and his three beloved grandsons, Brady DeRosa, Cooper Barnett and Case Barnett.

In accordance with Ron’s wishes, a military graveside service will be held for family and friends on Saturday Sept 12, 11am at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, 51197 Joppa Rd in Reedsville, with Mike Moore officiating.

Following the service, everyone is invited to gather at his favorite place, the Barnett Farm, located at 51220 Joppa Rd, directly across from the cemetery, for a Celebration of Ron’s Life and to visit with the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Ron’s memory to organizations that were meaningful to him: Hickory Hills Church of Christ (49790 Hickory Hill, Reedsville, OH 45772), St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org), or the Alzheimer’s Association (donorservices.Alzheimer's Association ).

Ron will be remembered for his deep love of family, his generous heart, his wonderful sense of humor, and his endless sense of adventure. His life was full of journeys, laughter, and love—and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of the family and friends who were fortunate enough to know and love him.

And while his family will miss him more than words can say, they like to imagine that Ron’s next great adventure includes a peaceful place to fish, plenty of stories to tell, and perhaps even a good cheese salad, dutch loaf sandwich and cherry-nut ice cream waiting for him. His work on earth is done, and he is now at peace.
