Claudette Hunter, 83 of Athens, passed away peacefully Monday, February 13, 2023 at the Kobacker House in Columbus, surrounded by her beloved family. Born October 24, 1939 in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Britton and Kathryn Lewis.
She was loved by everyone, always smiling and able to strike up a conversation with anyone. She loved baking, which she had a bakery in her home and also enjoyed spending all day gardening and flower gardening, selling both garden and baked goods at the farmers market. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas, decorating all the rooms in the house as well as decorating the outside of the house. She was a school bus driver and custodian for the Athens City School District. She also was manager of Sugar Grove Coal Company for over 50 years. She loved her grandkids and family.
She is survived by her children, Tammy Young, Bob (Sandy) Young, James (Michelle) Young, Dewey Hunter; eight grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren, and several members of the Hunter family.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Hunter in 2015; a daughter, Kathy Hunter; two brothers, twin Leon Britton, James Britton; and several members of the Hunter Family.
Services will be Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Hughes Moquin Funeral Home with Pastor Stanley Strode officiating. Burial will be in Hilltop Cemetery.
