Darrell Dwane Hawthorne

Long Bottom - Darrell Dwane Hawthorne, 90, left this earth on September 28, 2026, to worship at the feet of Jesus and sing a song the angels cannot sing.

He was born on August 19, 1936, in Apple Grove, OH, to the late Minnie Sayre Hawthorne Cunningham.

In addition to his mother, Darrell was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 50 years, Norma Hawk Hawthorne; his younger brother, Pearl (JR) Hawthorne; his beloved father and mother-in-law, Milford and Addie Hawk; and a special niece Nita McClendon. Darrell was looking forward to a reunion with his former Pomeroy high school classmates, Gordon Winebrenner and Bill Pullins, when he entered heaven.

Darrell was known for his extraordinary work ethic. He was raised in the Children’s Home and left school to serve six years in the U.S. Navy. He managed Royal Oak Park for many years, and retired from Karr/Wesam Construction Company, where he was a block tender and concrete finisher by trade.

Darrell accepted Jesus as his savior in 1970, and formed many friendships at South Bethel Community Church, Mercy’s Mission Church, and Faith Full Gospel church. Many friends remember Darrell and Norma dancing and singing together. They sang often in church and if you were fortunate, you may have gotten to hear him whistle a tune.

Darrell is survived by his most prized possessions, his family; three sons, Jim (Dixie), Tim (Debbie), and David (Joy); daughter, Laura; eight grandchildren, Ryan, Dyana, Mallory, Seth, Kimberly, Kayla, Beth and Brantley; 15 great grandchildren; sister, Patricia Cunningham Clevenger; and special nieces Katherine and Sarah.

Although Darrell was blessed with many friends, Roger Hoffman and Lester Parker have been faithful to the end.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, from 5 PM until 8 PM at White Funeral Home in Coolville, Ohio, with Masonic services at 8 PM.

Graveside services will be held at 11AM on October 1, 2026, at Mound Cemetery, with Rob Barber and Steven Reed officiating.
