David Hartinger, 58 of Athens, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at Marietta Memorial Hospital in Marietta. He was in comfort care in the end and passed away peacefully. Born September 15, 1967 in Athens, he was the son of the late Donald K. Douglas and Shirley L. Hartinger.
David was an Athens consumer who HAVAR served for many years. He was an active member of The Gathering Place Board and HAVAR Board. He was an outspoken advocate for his community through the People First of Ohio. He was passionate about wrestling, loved his cat Spooky, and he once participated in a Bigfoot hunt!
He enjoyed watching Days of Our Lives and General Hospital, and sang karaoke (favoring classic rock), and took part in activities at the Gathering Place and the RAH program. He enjoyed listening to the Marching 110 and watching Bengals football games.
In addition to other family members, he was preceded in death by his mother whom he was very close to.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Hughes Funeral Home where a funeral will be held at 1PM on Thursday, January 15, 2026. Burial will follow in Burlingham Cemetery. Visitation services will also be Thursday, January 15, 2026 from 11AM until the start of the service.
