Dorothy Snyder

HOCKINGPORT—Dorothy Snyder, 90, of Hockingport, OH, passed away Friday, May 16, 2025.

She was born June 8, 1934, in Reedsville, OH, daughter of the late Herbert and Stella Randolph Rood.

Dorothy has always been known as a caregiver for so many. Even as a young girl she took care of her mother, father, brothers and sisters. She was a former employee of Coal Mountain Products in Hockingport, Buckley Nursing Home in Tuppers Plains, Arcadia in Coolville and the tomato fields in Reedsville. She took care of her Aunt Lucy and several other people in her home for 6 years. She also helped raise several of her nieces and nephews and considered one of her nephews as her son. Ronald Callahan and his daughter, Andrea Weese always held a special place in her heart. She had two other nieces, Shirley Barber and Francis Putman that continued to show their love for her throughout her life. She also held a special bond with Teresa Calaway and her family by helping to raise her children while they were growing up. She stayed a part of Teresa’s family and got extremely close to her grandchildren Lucas and Zaylee Roush. She called them her boy and girl. Dorothy spent much of her last year of life living in Teresa’s home and with the help of Hospice was able to bring Dorothy home with her after her last hospital stay. Family was with her and held her hand as she passed letting her know she was loved by many.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold W. Snyder in 2001; five sisters, Evalina Pickens, Gladys Shannon, Virginia Allan, Marie Bogard, Shirley Rood and six brothers, John, Herbert, Everett, Albert, Harding and Ernest Rood.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M., Monday, May 19, 2025, at White Funeral Home in Coolville, OH. Burial will follow in the Eden Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home Sunday, from 4-6 P.M.
