Eric Britain Miller

April 6, 1976 — August 7, 2025

Athens

Eric Britain Miller, DO, 49 of Athens, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, August 7, 2025 at his home. Born April 6, 1976 in Louisville, KY, he was the son of Barbara Stout Miller and the late Herbert Charles Miller, DO, FAAO, FCA.

Eric was an Osteopathic Physician who provided care to his community through Memorial Health System and previously Ohio Health System (Park’s Hall). He was a past faculty member of the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed residencies in Family Medicine and Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens, OH. He was a graduate of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, Purdue University and Zionsville Community High School in Indiana. Between high school and undergraduate he attended Hobart Institute and worked as a welder.

Eric was a fourth-generation osteopathic physician preceded by his great-grandfather Edward Kirk Stretch, DO; his grandmother Olive M. Stretch, DO, FAAO and his father Herbert C. Miller, DO, FAAO, FCA. Like those who came before him, Eric was a dedicated and talented healer who decreased the pain of so many in his community. His patients found him to be caring, knowledgeable, and empathetic.

Eric was a loving father, devoted friend and an avid lover of nature—often spending time in and near any creek. He enjoyed sharing his love of nature with his children and often had a tank of critters from the creek in his home to further encourage this shared interest.

Besides his mother, Eric is survived by his children, Britton S. Miller (child of Katherine Kiger, DO) and Eloise M. Miller (child of Megan Buskirk, MSW); and his siblings Ian C. Miller, Lee Bess, PhD, Bryan H. (Carmen) Miller, and Ardath M. (Sara) Miller. He is also survived by numerous stepsiblings, nieces and nephews. He named many people as friends but most especially Simeon Hain, DO—who shared the journey from Zionsville, through medical school, residency and finally private practice.

Eric’s children, Britton and Eloise were asked to contribute to this remembrance. Eric’s daughter Eloise loved when her dad read to her, made her stuffed animals dance, made her laugh and she always felt so, so loved by him. Eric’s son Britton shared “He was a loving father. Too bad he had to go so soon.”

Arrangements have been entrusted to Hughes Funeral Home where private services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to his children’s college savings plans. Hughes Funeral Home will graciously receive these funds and forward them equally to Britton and Eloise’s 529 accounts.

Finally, the family hopes that those whose lives were touched by Eric will carry his spirit forward—showing kindness, caring for one another, and remembering that no one has to face hard times alone.

Those who wish to sign the online guestbook or leave the family a message of sympathy may do so at www.ehwfh.com.
