PARKERSBURG - Erik Jason Sams, 54, of Parkersburg, West Virginia, passed away on October 31, 2025. He was born on March 23, 1971, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and spent his childhood and adult life in the Mid-Ohio Valley, a community he loved and served throughout his life.
Erik was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Robert E. Sams and Judith A. Sams. He is survived by his two sons, George Sams and Elliot Sams; his brother, Robert Steven Sams; and his sister, Patricia Sams.
Despite his own challenges, he never stopped caring for others, always keeping his loved one’s best interests at heart. He worked extremely hard to give his two sons the best lives and brightest opportunities for their futures.
A devoted father, brother, and friend, Erik dedicated his life to helping others. He was the owner and Executive Director of Worthington Mental Health, where he worked tirelessly to expand access to compassionate mental health care in the community. His work reflected his belief that every person deserves to be heard, supported, and treated with dignity.
Erik was a Master Mason and a proud member of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in Erik’s honor.
