Frank Helenberger

Frank Helenberger, 61, of Athens, Ohio passed away Sunday, May 10, 2026 at his family residence.

Born March 9, 1965, in Crestview, Florida, he was the son of James and Barbara Jones Helenberger. Frank was a 1983 graduate of Brookhaven High School in Columbus, Ohio, where he was an active member of the Drama Club, Radio Club, National Honor Society, and a member of the Track and Football Teams. Frank served in the US Navy as a submariner aboard the USS Nathan Hale (SSBN 623) (Gold) and USS Casmir Pulaski (SSBN 633) (Blue). He also served as a Firefighter/Paramedic with the Columbus Fire Department. Frank enjoyed camping, motorcycle rides, and time spent with family and friends. Most recently he was a self-published author.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Cheryl Green Helenberger, and children, Lyn Helenberger and Lou Helenberger; one sister, Marcia (Kevin) McGee; brothers, Jim (Diana) Helenberger, Tom (Malisa) Helenberger, and Kirk Helenberger; and many nieces and nephews.

Frank’s wishes were that there be no public services. Donations may be made in his name to the Ohio Hospice – Athens or the National MS Society.
