Frederick Wayne Farson

Millfield - Frederick “Fred” Wayne Farson, 69, of Millfield, passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday, October 25, 2026.

Born December 4, 1956, in Athens, Ohio, he was the son of the late John Eugene and Martha Lee Farson. Fred was a 1975 graduate of Athens High School, a member of Trimble #557 Masonic Lodge from which he was a past Master and attended Bishopville Church of Christ. He retired from the Athens City School District where he worked in transportation as a mechanic and bus driver. Fred enjoyed the outdoors, to hunt and fish. He also had a passion for old classic cars.

He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Sarah McCune Farson; two daughters, Pamela Farson and Cheryl (Brian Emert) Slone; one grandson, Donovan Slone; one brother, Keith Farson; his mother-in-law, Pam McCune; brother-in-law, Robert (Cynthia) McCune Jr; several nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends Jim McDonald and Charlie Campbell and special neighbors, the Peacock family.

Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Robert McCune Sr. and special friend, Mike Thomas.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, October 28, 2026 at the Hughes Funeral Home in Athens with John Hanning officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM with a Masonic service at 7:30 PM conducted by the Trimble #557 Masonic Lodge. There will also be visitation line one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will be held in the Hilltop Cemetery in Millfield. A portion of Fred’s procession to the cemetery will be in a horse drawn hearse to conclude at the grave.
