Gary Vaughn Conkey

Athens - Gary Vaughn Conkey, 74, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at his home.

Born July 7, 1951 in Athens, Ohio, he was the son of the late Vaughn and Ruth Yeager Conkey. Gary was a 1969 graduate of Athens High School and lived in Athens working as an independent carpenter. He enjoyed cheering on his sports teams and was always up for a good laugh. He loved watching his son, nieces and nephews partake in their athletic adventures, but found true happiness in being a grandfather. He spent his final days being cared for by his daughter-in-law, Heather.

He is survived by one son, Kurt (Heather) Conkey; six grandchildren, Mallie, Brock, Brice, Boone, Beckham and Myla; one brother, Brian Conkey; several nieces, nephews and Beth (Mike) Thomas.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Sparhawk.
