Ivan David Marcus passed away peacefully at home under the care of his wife Rebecca (Tong-Niinistö), an accomplished nurse, and Shivers Hospice on August 29, 2025. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Harold and Helen Grossman on March 4, 1945. He attended Walnut Hill High School and graduated from Woodward High School in 1963. He received a bachelor’s degree in business and a master’s degree in education, both from Ohio University. Ivan served as a teacher and special needs coordinator at Belpre City Schools for 19 years. With his neighbor and help from his children he also became a successful Christmas tree farmer. After 2017 he practiced retirement every day with diligence. He loved listening to music, enjoyed cooking and investing in the stock market. Ivan, a successful athlete in his youth, was also a dedicated fan of the Reds and Bengals. As a world traveler throughout his life, he loved to meet people, share his humor and infectious laugh, and the ability to spontaneously create a rhyme. He was preceded in death by his two sisters: Dianna Minson (David, daughter Amber and son Eli) and Carol Goldhagen (Steven, sons Alan and David). In addition to his wife Rebecca, he is survived by his children Erica Curry Van Ee (Brian), Emily, Jamey and Molly Marcus, and five grandchildren Theo, Lyle, Vada, Liv, and Edie Shane. A celebration for his life is to be arranged. In lieu of flowers contributions to The Friends of the Shelter Dogs are suggested. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Hughes Funeral Home where you may sign the online guestbook or leave the family a message of sympathy at www.ehwfh.com.
