James Wheatley

Athens - James Wheatley, 75, of Athens, died Thursday, August 6, 2026, at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens.

Born December 28, 1950 in Marietta, Ohio, he was the son of the late Ralph and Evaline Vannoy Wheatley. Jim was a 1969 graduate of Athens High School and a United States Army Veteran. He worked for American Electric Power at Mine 31 and was a UMWA Union Representative. Jim enjoyed volunteering at the union Christmas charity events, other community fund raisers and to man the grill at Union outings. In his spare time, he loved to travel the country with his wife Pam, to cook and as a Little League baseball coach. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family and watching his children and grandchildren grow up.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Pam Lenigar Wheatley; three children, Heath Wheatley, Corey (Rachel) Wheatley and Tiffany Wheatley; four grandchildren, Landon, Weston, Leo and Roman Wheatley; one brother, Thomas (Mary) Wheatley; three sisters, Carol (Mike) Clifford, Diane Wheatley and Sandy (JD) Rollison;

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Wheatley and one sister Patricia Smith.
