It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John and Le-Ann Horton.
John G. Horton, aged 82, and Le-Ann Horton, aged 72, both from Albany, Ohio, along with their two beloved pups, tragically lost their lives in a fatal car accident on Thursday, July 31, 2025, in Albany.
Born in Flint, Michigan, John was a retired physician specializing in emergency room medicine and family practice. In retirement, he dedicated himself to volunteering, providing free medical care to those in need, and actively participated in the Kairos Prison Ministry. Known for his wisdom, witty humor and generosity, John touched the lives of many.
Le-Ann Horton nee Frost was born in Bellevue, Ohio. She worked as a respiratory therapist before marrying John in 1976 and later assisted him in his family practice offices. Sharing John's passion for helping others, Le-Ann volunteered as a “surrogate patient” for Ohio University medical students in the medical program. She was cherished for her kindness and unwavering support for neighbors and the community. Together, John and Le-Ann served those less fortunate through their church's Bible groups.
For over 49 years, John and Le-Ann shared a life filled with kindness, laughter, and love. Their devotion to serving the Lord and helping others was evident in everything they did. They adored their children, their animals, enjoyed fishing together, and spent countless hours hand in hand, watching the birds from their chairs on the deck. Gardening and revamping their flower pots each year brought them tremendous joy. John and Le-Ann’s compassion, empathy, and strength are reflected in their children, close friends, and family.
Together, they embodied love, partnership, and faith—two lives intertwined through decades of shared joys and challenges. Their love story concluded as it began, side by side.
They are survived by their children: Brandon (Heather) Horton from Carmel, Indiana, and Allison Horton from Kansas City, Kansas. Le-Ann is survived by her sister, Pat Callaghan; her brother, John Frost; as well as her special niece Holly Cowan and family, nieces and nephews. John is survived by his brother, Roger Horton.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Hughes Funeral Home where a celebration of their lives will take place at 10:30 AM on Friday August 22 at Christ Community Wesleyan Church in Albany Ohio. A luncheon will follow for close family and close friends.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to: Christ Community Wesleyan Church, Athens County Humane Society or charity of your choice. Those who wish to sign the online guestbook or leave the family a message of sympathy may do so at www.ehwfh.com.
