John Albert Nichols, known affectionately as "Nick," passed away at the age of 73 on July 17, 2025, at home with his family in Lexington, Kentucky. Born on August 21, 1951, in Columbus, Ohio, he grew into a man of quiet strength, wisdom, and unwavering love, admired for his strong work ethic.

Nick served honorably in the U.S. Air Force from 1970 to 1974, a period that shaped much of his early adult life. After his military service, he pursued higher education at The Ohio State University, which paved the way for a successful career in property tax within the oil and gas industry. He began his career with SOHIO in 1981 and retired from British Petroleum in 2010, respected by colleagues for his professionalism and integrity.

Beyond his professional life, Nick was a man of many interests. He was an avid outdoorsman, relishing times spent camping and canoeing across the U.S. and Canada. A skilled hunter and a gifted photographer, he captured the beauty of nature and the joys of family moments, leaving behind a treasure trove of memories in his photographs. Woodworking was another passion; he crafted many heirlooms with meticulous care that will be cherished for generations. Additionally, Nick enjoyed ancestry research, playing cards, and most importantly, spending quality time with his beloved family.

Nick's legacy is carried on by his loving wife, Lynn, his children, Christine Zamaripa (Mauricio), Michele Baldwin (Todd), and Kenneth Nichols (Beth), along with his cherished grandchildren Cassandra, Mauricio, Kayla, Tyler, Miguel, John, and Diana. He is also survived by his sister, Cathrine Nichols (Jill), brother, Mike Nichols (Crystal), nieces Melinda, Emily, Christie, Amanda, Jennifer, and Jessika, and his aunt Ruth Mason.

Services to honor Nick's life will be held at Letart Falls Cemetery Chapel, 47163 E Letart Road, Racine, Ohio, on Monday, July 21, at 3:00 with Pastor Adam Will officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 2:00 - 3:00. A memorial gathering will also take place on Saturday, July 26, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at Schoedinger Margarum NorthEast, 1051 E Johnstown Rd, Gahanna, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, a cause important to Nick.
