Joseph Lee Russell

Joseph Lee “Joe” Russell, 58, died Sunday, April 17, 2022 at his Athens home with his family by his side.

Joe was born October 3, 1963, in Athens, Ohio, to John and Goldie Russell. He also had a sister, Judy Russell (Lewis Jones), and two brothers, Jerry (Marcia) Russell, and John (Cindy) Russell.

In 1982, Joe graduated from the Athens High School and the Tri-County Career Center. For over 20 years, Joe worked for Wal-Mart, starting in Columbus as a warehouse worker, before ending his career as a store employee in Athens.

Joe married Paula Russell on September 7, 2019. The two shared numerous, wonderful years together, before and after marriage. They were blessed to have a wonderful fur-child, Sparky “Sparkles”, who Joe loved like a son.

Joe was an avid outdoorsman with a love of football, primarily supporting the Bengals. He was a very devoted family man, specifically as a grandfather, who loved to spend time with his grandchildren, making memories and taking pictures to treasure for years to come.

Joe is survived by his children, stepson Nick (Erin) Brown, and daughters Katie (Tyler) Crane, DJ (Jeremy) Black, and Brooke and Rachael Dickerson; grandchildren, Makenzie, Carson, Madison, Jaxon, Bailey, Rhett, Braxton, Lincoln, Bryson and Corbin; also, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Goldie Russell, and his niece, Melody Russell.

Joe especially will be remembered for his willingness to help anyone in need and his love of his family and friends.

Visitation services will be Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 5p.m. at the Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home in Athens. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 11a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the funeral home or the home at 7900 LeMaster Rd Athens, OH 45701.
