Margaret L. Cauthorn

Margaret Lanier Cauthorn died on August 11, 2026, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born on December 29, 1933, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Margaret Foster Groce and John Lanier Groce. They moved to Long Bottom, Ohio in Meigs County after World War II and she graduated from Chester High School in 1952. In 1959, she married Curtis P. Cauthorn, Jr. They moved to Reedsville, Ohio in 1975. Curtis P. Cauthorn, Jr. died in 1993. Margaret moved to Marietta, Ohio in 2015.

She was Riverview Elementary School Librarian for a number of years before working as an assistant librarian at Eastern High School. After she retired from that position, she worked part time as an assistant to the Washington County Law Librarian.

She is survived by daughters Alison Cauthorn-Kreiss (Dirk Kreiss) of Marietta, OH; Amity Abigail Cauthorn of Columbus, OH; step-daughter L. Terry Cauthorn; step-grandson, Adam P. Soltys, and his children, Curtis Arturo and Cora Alejandra of Greensboro, N.C.

There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Reedsville Community Church, 66158 S.R. 124, Reedsville, Ohio.
