Chauncey - Marie L. “Sharma” Douglas, 82, of Chauncey, went into the arms of Jesus with loved ones by her side, on Monday, November 3, 2025, at Bristol Village in Waverly, Ohio after a year long illness. Born February 14, 1943, in Ames Township, Athens County, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Helen Thompson Everett.
Marie was a 1961 graduate of Ames-Bern High School and a member of the Chauncey Christian Church. She enjoyed 4-H goat watching, gardening and feeding hummingbirds. Marie was a quiet and kind soul. She was known for baking her delicious zucchini bread. She enjoyed spending time with her little dog, Midnight, while watching her favorite TV court shows and doing her word search puzzles. Spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brightened her days. She was dedicated to attending church weekly with her special friends.
Marie is survived by three daughters, Sharla (Larry) Hawk, Bevera (Brian) Bobo and Tava Douglas; one son, Derren (Christy King) Douglas; stepdaughters Rita (Delmar) Williams and Joy Cooper; seven grandchildren, Amy, Derek, Brian II, Audra, Brandie, Zachary and Dylan; fifteen great-grandchildren, Karlee, Konner, Kooper, Landen, Brianna, Brandon Jr, Brylee, Brian III, Adrienne, Brenna, Emma, Braylin, Trinity, Serenity, and Aaron; one niece, Lyn Everett.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oba Douglas Sr., in 1994; one brother Emerson “Red” Everett; one sister, Goldie Everett; one grandson, Brandon Bobo Sr. and one nephew, Jason Everett; stepsons Oba Douglas Jr. and Terry Douglas, stepdaughters Beverley Keirns and Sheila Buffington.
The family would like to thank Michelle and Tami at Fosterbridge for enriching Marie’s life at home. Also, a special thanks to Bristol Village staff and National Church Residence Hospice Group. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, November 7, 2025, at the Hughes Funeral Home in Athens, Ohio, with Reverend William Hunter officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday from 11:00 PM-1:30 PM at the Hughes Funeral Home. Burial will be at the McDougal Cemetary. Friends are invited to sign the online guestbook at ehwfh.com.
