Martha Jane Vickers
Athens - Martha Jane Vickers, 89, of Athens, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025 at her residence.
Born June 28, 1935 in Harrison, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Russel W and Mildred J Biddle Adams. Martha was a 1953 graduate of Harrison High School and earned her Associates Degree in Business Administration from the University of Cincinnati in 1955. She began her career as a Certified Medical Assistant with Dr. Charles Jividen in Athens and D. David Grubbs in Glouster. In 1980 she went to work at Ohio University as a Library Associate in Alden Library, the Music Libraries, the auditor for the VP of Finance and retired in 2004 as the Manager of Accounts Payable. Martha was a member of the Alpha Gamma Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta at the University of Cincinnati, AFAN, Athens Women’s Music Club and Euchre Club at University Estates. She enjoyed knitting, reading, playing cards and sewing.
Martha is survived by three children, Christine (James) Vaughan, Diana (Matt) Bunting, and Brian (Lynn) Vickers; eight grandchildren, Jason (Olivia Phillips) Mehaffey, Jeffrey (Karissa) Mehaffey, Adam (Sheena) Bunting, Jared (Rebecca) Bunting, Lauren (Jacob) Vinkovich, Shauna Jones, Olivia Vickers, and Jack Vickers; nine great grandchildren, Jameson Mehaffey, Cameron Mehaffey, Dorothy Mehaffey, Jaxon Mehaffey, Camden Bunting, Carter Bunting, Natalie Bunting, Haddie Vinkovich and Harper Vinkovich.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in 2010, John “Jack” Vickers; one son, Keith Vickers: one granddaughter, Alison Bunting and after her husbands death she had a very special friend/companion, William Pavelich who died in 2021.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at the Hughes Funeral Home in Athens with Bruce Stoker officiating. Burial will follow at the Alexander Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the Hughes Funeral Home. Friends are encouraged to sign the online guestbook at ehwfh.com.
