Mary Ellen Andrew

Jun 12, 1938 — Jul 3, 2026

Mary Ellen Andrew (Aunt Mennie), age 88, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2026. She was born in Long Bottom, June 12, 1938, to the late Francis and Nellie (Mackin) Andrew. Mary Ellen was a graduate of Chester High School Class of 1955.

Upon graduation, she became a legal secretary to Crow & Crow, Attorneys in Pomeroy, until she became secretary at Kaiser Aluminum in Ravenswood, WVA. She then went to Columbus where she was Legal Secretary to Wiles & Doucher, Attorneys, until she was hired by Buckeye Federal Savings and Loan, Columbus in 1957 and remained there in Executive Secretarial positions until 1969. She then moved to Dallas, TX, where she worked at the Dallas Trade Mart, and then to Colorado Springs, where she worked at the Air Force Academy Foundation until she was hired by Allegheny Airlines, Pittsburgh, PA in 1972 – she retired from USAirways (formerly Allegheny Airlines) Management Position in 2006.

Mary Ellen definitely led a fun-filled life traveling around the U.S., especially Las Vegas, as she loved the casinos. She also loved the horse racing and dog tracks around the Pittsburgh area. She always enjoyed spending time and taking trips with her family.

Her only destination of desired travel outside the U.S. was Ireland, the land of her Heritage, where she traveled several times, the last time being in 2017 with her niece, Angie, which she referred to as “the trip of her lifetime.”

Mary Ellen (Mennie) is survived by sisters, Teresa Collins and Cathy (Wayne) Salkowitz; brother, Frank (Tammy) Andrews; nephew, Brian Collins (Jayne) and their children, Dakota and Baylee and their families; niece, Angela Collins and her children, Christopher and his family; and Elayna Bissell; nephew, Derick Salkowitz and his daughter, Caitlyn Salkowitz; and special friends, Jennifer (Tom) Minnear and Linda Boch Qualls.

Mary Ellen’s wishes were to be cremated, and her ashes taken to Ireland and scattered along the banks of Galway Bay.
