Mary Ann Riley

Athens - Mary Ann Riley, 68, of Athens, died peacefully Sunday, September 27, 2026, at her residence.

Born November 19, 1957, in Washington Courthouse, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Norbert and Mary Cook. Mary Ann grew up in Dayton, Ohio and was a graduate of Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School. She would later graduate from Hocking College with a Nursing degree and spend here entire career as a RN in Southeast Ohio. Mary Ann enjoyed quilting and was known “as the best cake baker ever.” Her favorite time of the year was late fall, Halloween and the Christmas season. She was an avid Cincinnati Bengals fan and followed Joe Burrow’s career from Athens High School all the way to the NFL. She loved to travel and New York City, New Orleans, The Outer Banks and most recently Scotland were some of her favorite destinations. She loved Harry Potter, Snoopy and musician Andrea Bocelli. She loved her family, was a dedicated mother, and often joked she loved her grandchildren more than her own kids!

She is survived by three sons, Christopher (Staci) Riley, Brian (Jennifer) Riley and Michael (Ashlee) Riley; four grandchildren, Savannah, Ethan, Jackson and Jacob; one brother, David (Betty) Cook; one sister, Vickie (Jose Garcia) Cook; two nieces, Robin (Chris) Adams and Sarah (Jake) Fromholt; one nephew, Alex (Kevin) Jones; great nephews, Mitchell Adams and Colin Jones and great niece, Mary Fromholt.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Jimmy Cook.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Hughes Funeral Home with Phil Foster officiating. Burial will follow at 1:30 PM at Calvary Cemetery in Dayton.
