Minerva “Jane” Wingett
Shade - Jane Wingett, 99, of Shade, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025 at Kimes Convalescent Center in Athens.
Born on August 16, 1925, in Athens, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Elizabeth Lewis Hooper. During World War II, Jane worked in Detroit and painted rivets for the airplanes, hence the expression “Rosy the riveter”. She enjoyed life with husband Charles, whether it was square dancing, camping, fishing or being active at the Shade Community Center. She and Charles worked together on the family dairy farm for eighteen years and she had a green thumb at flower gardening.
She is survived by three daughters, Sue (Robert) Beverage, Candy Johnson and Jane Ann (Tim) Bail; two grandchildren, Jeff (Julie) Howell and Molly (Elizabeth) Jenkins-Bail; four great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren and special friends Mary Lee Kelly and Kim Rush.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wingett; four brothers, Fred Jr, Ben, Frank and Jim; one sister, Eloise Pedigo and one son-in-law, Dennis Johnson.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at Garden Cemetery in Shade, Ohio, with Rick Bourne officiating. Friends are encouraged to sign the online guestbook at ehwfh.com.
