Roger Arnold Brooks, 79, was born to the late Paul and Mildred (Pullins) Brooks, on June 5, 1947, in Reedsville, OH. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Ohio State University Hospital on July 14, 2026. He was a 1966 graduate of Eastern High School. Roger was a proud Army veteran that went on to be employed by Windstream for 39 years.

His greatest love and best friend was his wife, Captolia (Cap) who he will be patiently waiting for in Heaven. Cap was often found being Roger’s “right hand,” helping him with any and all projects that he conjured up.

Roger was an outdoorsman. The callouses on his hands told the stories of years' worth of wood working, saw milling, go kart racing, and mechanical work on the various machines that he enjoyed doing with both of his sons. His legacy will continue on through the knowledge he passed to his grandchildren (AKA potlickers), in the art of outdoor sportsmanship that consisted of hunting, maple sugaring, gold panning and gardening.

Even after retirement his work ethic did not let up. He would often be found working on at least three different projects at a time. His knowledge, work ethic and stubbornness will be greatly missed.

Roger is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Captolia; their two sons, Travis (EErin) Brooks and Jason (Jezare) Brooks; grandchildren, Maddy (Andrew), Westen, Laekin (Blake), Emmett, Grant and Brayden; two great-grandsons, Troy and Lane; father and mother-in-law, Art and Betty Cole; siblings, Judy (Jerry) Perdue, Jo (Bill) Francis, Gerald (Bonnie) Brooks, Jan (Skip) Shepherd, Keith Brooks; sister-in-law, Ruth Brooks; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd Brooks.

A military graveside service will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the Coolville Cemetery, with Gilbert Spencer officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11am-1pm at White Funeral Home in Coolville.

In lieu of flowers, as Roger would say: flowers are a waste of money, you can’t eat them.
