Ronald Lee Bretz, age 78, of Springfield, Ohio passed away at his home on November 9, 2024.
Ron served in the U.S. Army and National Guard with a tour of duty in Korea. He worked as an Athens police officer and for the State of Ohio Attorney General as a police instructor. Ron loved teaching at the police academy and area colleges. He enjoyed motorcycling throughout the United States and was a member of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club in Dayton. Ron also competed in Fast Draw competitions. He spent time sharing his love for woodworking with his daughter and two sisters-in-law.
Ron is survived by his wife, Nola of 51 years; daughter, Sherry (Dan) Medaglia of Cleveland; son, Ronnie Lee, Jr. of Georgia; sisters: Debbie Jarvis of Athens and Christie (Ron) Fowler of Coolville and many extended family members.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Clifford Bretz of Guysville.
A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, November 18th, 2024 from 3-5 p.m. at Littleton & Rue Funeral Home, 830 N. Limestone St., Springfield. A memorial service will follow at 5 p.m.at the funeral home.
Graveside services will held Tuesday, November19th, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Burson Cemetery in Shade, Ohio with Phil Foster officiating. Military services will be conducted by the Albany VFW and Athens American Legion Post. Friends are invited to sign the online guestbook at ehwfh.com Local arrangements have been entrusted to the Hughes Funeral Home in Athens.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his memory to Ohio Valley Hospice or Capital Area Humane Society.
