Sandra Kathryn Iannarelli
Middleport - Sandra Kathryn Iannarelli, 80, of Middleport, died Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at Ohio State University Hospital East in Columbus surrounded by her loving family.
Born May 7, 1946, in Gallipolis, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late David Wesley and Margaret Gress Ohlinger. Sandy was a Meigs County Icon. You name it, she volunteered it. She was a lifelong member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and led the church’s revitalization project of the Sacred Heart Cemetery. When her boys were student athletes at Meigs High, she served as president of the Meigs Athletic Boosters. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and volunteered at the Meigs County Humane Society - many of her neighbors said she had her own Humane Society at her residence. If you ever visited the Mason Walmart, Sandy was the first to greet you with a smile and probably a story or two. Politics were Sandy’s thing…She was a previous chair of the Meigs County Republican Party and a member of the Meigs County Election Board. She was the first female Mayor of Middleport where she served a total of three terms. During her time as mayor, she spent countless hours trying to find grants for village improvements and she led the drive to re-open the Middleport pool. Sandy was a beautician who owned and operated Chateau Beauty Salon in Pomeroy. Volunteers are hard to find these days but Sandy always found a way to help the community she loved.
She is survived by two sons, David (Tori) Iannarelli and Andy (Deborah) Iannarelli; three grandchildren, Taylor, Madeline (Joey) and Heather and two sisters, Susan (Ed) Turley and Sonya (Rusty) Starcher, a nephew Eddie (Tricia) Baer and a niece Tricia (Gary) Adams.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her soulmate, Jim Frecker.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pomeroy with Father Jeremiah officiating. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Following the burial all are invited back to the Ewing Family Center for food and fellowship. Visitation will be on Monday, October 12, 2026 from 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM at the Ewing Funeral Home in Pomeroy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church for the cemetery revitalization project at the church office of St. Louis and Sacred Heart, 85 State Street, Gallipolis, Ohio 45631. Friends are invited to sign the online guestbook at ehwfh.com.
