William Michael Dombroski

July 11, 1938 — June 4, 2025

Athens

William “Bill” Dombroski passed away on June 4th, 2025, at the age of 86.

Bill was born July 11, 1938 in Barberton, Ohio, to Walter and Mary (Doran), but spent most of his adult life in Athens with his wife of 51 years, Ann Dombroski. He graduated from Norton High School in 1957 and the University of Akron with a Bachelor of Education in Science in 1967. He began his career in the purchasing department at the University of Akron and then took a position as interior designer at Ohio University, where he remained until his retirement in 1995.

Bill enjoyed gardening around his house, where he was always thinking of new things to plant or making design choices for where flowers should go. He was a passionate artist, who enjoyed expressing himself in many different types of mediums. His creative mind produced wood carvings of birds and fish, abstract sculptures, dioramas, and paintings of landscapes and people. He was always jotting down ideas for an art project. Bill was also a woodworker and made many improvements on the house throughout the years. He had a great interest in cars and airplanes and could often been seen working on one of his cars in the driveway.

Among his many other interests were reading, Buckeyes football, local arts and music, and traveling with family. He loved all animals--big and small--and together with his wife Ann, he rescued and cared for many animals in his lifetime, including dogs Rusty and Buddy.

Bill and Ann spent eleven years in Florida, where Bill enjoyed searching for shells on the beach and watching the wildlife, before they returned to Athens in the last years of his life.

Bill is survived by his daughter Valerie McCort; his sons Kirk Cummings, Craig Cummings, and Mike Dombroski; 8 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Ann, his brother Richard, son, Kevin Cummings, and grandchild Mathew McCort.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Bill’s care team that supported him.

Visitation will be held at Hughes Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 11, from 11AM to 1PM, followed by a funeral service at 1PM officiated by Mark Mitera following thereafter.
